UP OBEM
The UP Organization of Business Economics Majors (UP OBEM) is a duly recognized organization of the University of the Philippines Diliman. It is one of the most dynamic socio-academic organizations to date providing a venue and creating an environment that promotes economics not only to economics students but also to high school students and to the community.
One of the flagship projects aimed at this objective is the annual Econ-No-Mix. Thrice awarded by the Junior Philippines Economics Society (JPES) as the nationwide Best Organizational Activity for three academic years, Econ-No-Mix is a students’ convention grounded on economics. This year’s roster of competitions will include an idea generation contest and a stock trading competition along with the regular contests: quiz bee, debate contest, on-the-spot essay writing contest and an on-the-spot poster making contest which will feature top high school students from public and private high schools all over Metro Manila.
This academic year’s Econ-No-Mix is focused on the topic: Economics of Innovation and the Environment and will be guided by the theme “GREENNOVATION: Catalyzing the Dawn for Sustainable Economic Development” to be held on January 7, January 30 and February 6, 2011 at the UP School of Economics, UP Diliman, Quezon City. It aims to discuss environmental concerns of the modern world vis-à-vis economic theories of straight from the top personalities of the academe, government and the private sector. It also aims to impart importance of balance between growth and environmental protection in achieving an innovative and sustainable development for the Philippines. Topics such as renewable resource management, cost-benefit analyses of environmental policies and Filipino eco-friendly innovations will be interestingly explored.
